May I be a guide for those Who need protection May I be a guard for those on the path A boat, a raft, a bridge May I be a lamp in the darkness A resting place for the weary May I be a balm for those who are sick A vase of plenty May I be a tree of miracles May I be a tree of peace May I bring support and awakening Enduring like earth and sky Until all beings are free Free from sorrow Until all beings know love Until all beings know peace Until all beings are set free Free from the veils of illusion May I be a tree of miracles May I be a tree of peace Freedom, freedom, freedom...

We saw the white deer dreaming in the dusk We saw the oaks cleft and cleaving, calling us Pink brush strokes of last light in the West We live and die beneath these skies, beauty blessed Our songs of hope and sorrow we will sing Our gift of love unto the earth, our offering Our songs of peace and beauty we will sing Our gift of love unto the earth, our offering A blanket of darkness gathers round We walk on into the night on quiet ground White owl cries, our souls return the call With tears in our eyes, secret breath in all Our songs of hope and sorrow we will sing Our gift of love unto the earth, our offering Our songs of peace and beauty we will sing Our gift of love unto the earth, our offering In tender hearths the fires still burn We've loved we've lost, our spirits had to learn Take my hand my love we're soon to reach the dawn Gently through these changing worlds, we journey on Our songs of hope and sorrow we will sing Our gift of love unto the earth, our offering Our songs of peace and beauty we will sing Our gift of love unto the earth, our offering

Welcome to this threshold, dear soul Deepening in gently now, feel this power, this power that's in you Meeting at this crossroads, dear child, welcoming you, gently now Feel this love, this love that surrounds you Feel, feel a little deeper Feel this power, this power that's in you Feel, feel a little deeper Feel this love, this love that's coming through Open, open a little wider, to this child, this child in your womb Open, open a little wider, to this child, this child coming through... Sacred Woman, feel the Grandmothers gathering round Sacred Woman, feel the holding of this sacred ground Feel the earth holding you and Feel the fire burning true and Feel the ocean's endless blue and Feel the skies moving through you Feel the mountains wise and strong and Feel all nature's endless song We belong, we belong, we belong... Feel the owl in the night, embrace this dark this sacred flight, with wings of forgiveness we purify, we are healing, we are healing Sacred woman, feel the grandmothers gathering round Sacred woman, feel the holding of this sacred ground Woman, feel all mothers gathering round Sacred woman, feel the holding of this sacred ground Sacred woman feel the ancestors gathering round Sacred woman, feel the holding of this sacred ground Sacred woman, feel the angels gathering round Sacred woman, feel the holding of this sacred ground

about

This shoal of songs is my soul in honouring, longing, remembrance and prayer. Meetings with the mystery and inspiration of whales, water, plants, and people I love.

The first four songs are sung, at least partly, in proto-Celtic; a bundle of words made up of the earliest traceable fragments of the Celtic languages, dating back thousands of years. These words are like tiny pieces of amulet bone that hold a power of connection to the ancient and indigenous soul, to the soul of the land, to the lives and ways of our ancestors in Britain. Dreaming with the sounds of Proto-Celtic and singing these words has been a powerful inspiration and vehicle for my music.

Michael Stanton’s guitar has been wind beneath the wings of these songs. I am forever grateful for his tending them with such devotion, and for our dance and collaboration in love and music.
